But if we pause for a moment, we might realise that make-up did not originate there. It has roots in play, imagination, and expression in a world much closer to childhood than adulthood.Just like dressing up, make-up can be a playful territory. Instead of masking, it can become a way of making up by experimenting, transforming, and expressing joy. If a piece of paper or sometimes even a wall can become a canvas for a child’s self-expression, why couldn’t their own body be one too?Anyone who has spent time with children knows how naturally this urge appears. Even with ordinary paint, children will often colour their hands, arms, or faces. They are fascinated by temporary tattoos, stamps, and anything that allows them to leave a mark on their own skin. It is part of discovering who they are and who they can become. As adults, we tend to allow ourselves this freedom mainly during carnival time. A painted face, a costume, a moment of playful transformation. Children don’t wait for the calendar to give them permission. For them, every day can be carnival. Every ordinary afternoon holds the potential for imagination, role play, and becoming someone or something else.Painting a face, adding a streak of colour to the hair, or turning into a unicorn is not so different from putting on a costume or wrapping oneself in mum’s silk scarves. Often, what makes us hesitant is not the play itself, but the lack of safe, child-appropriate tools to support it.There is another reason we cannot simply ignore cosmetics in childhood. Children have a deep desire to imitate the world around them. Through imitation, they make sense of everyday life, of objects, gestures, and routines they see adults perform. Make-up is one of those rituals. Children observe it regularly, long before we expect them to be interested in it. Peer influence follows soon after, sometimes much earlier than we feel prepared for.We can try to shield children from these influences, just as we try to limit screens, but we cannot avoid them forever. What we can do is offer context, guidance, and a healthy perspective. We can show children that make-up is not about fixing flaws or meeting ideals, but about play, creativity, and choice. That is why we include cosmetics in our range. Not because children need make-up in the way magazines or social media suggest, but because they need safe, respectful ways to explore imitation, transformation, and self-expression. We believe that with the freedom of supported play early on, children can develop a much healthier attitude towards make-up later on. For this reason, we choose to offer non-toxic, child-friendly alternatives that allow exploration without pressure or harm.About Namaki: Namaki is a French brand that shares our belief that cosmetics for children should support play, imagination, and self-expression, not adult beauty ideals.Their products are designed as playful tools rather than beauty products, allowing children to explore transformation, role play, and creativity in a way that is safe and age-appropriate. Face paint and make-up become part of imaginative play, just like costumes or dress-up accessories. All Namaki products are made with natural and certified organic ingredients and are carefully developed for sensitive skin. They are dermatologically tested, easy to apply, and easy to remove, offering reassurance for parents and independence for children.Namaki places strong emphasis on responsibility and sustainability. Their products comply with European cosmetics regulations as well as the CE toy standard, and the organic range is certified COSMOS Organic. Thoughtful packaging and eco-designed products reflect a long-term commitment to both people and the planet. For us, Namaki is a natural choice: a brand that approaches children’s cosmetics with the same care, respect, and understanding of childhood that we value in our shop.Manufacturer: Namaki Cosmetics, 11 Rue Mozart, FR-26500 Bourg-lès-Valence
